Helene — Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-04-29 Maintainer: Jiho Yang ([email protected])

These terms govern your use of Helene. By signing into Helene with a Google account, you agree to them. They are short on purpose. The companion Privacy Policy describes what we collect and what we don't.

1. The service

Helene is a personal-knowledge tool that captures memories from your conversations with AI assistants and stores them — along with any documents your AI client synthesizes from them — in your own Google Drive. The service consists of:

  • A Cloudflare Worker that proxies requests to your Google Drive
  • Web, iOS, and Android client apps
  • An MCP connector URL you can paste into AI clients (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.)

Helene is free during the personal-beta period.

2. Your account

You sign in with Google. Helene does not maintain its own password. If you lose access to your Google account, you lose access to Helene; we cannot recover an account on your behalf.

You are responsible for the security of the AI clients you connect to your Helene MCP URL — anyone with that URL can read and write your Helene memories until you revoke the token.

3. Acceptable use

You may use Helene for personal knowledge management. You may not use Helene to:

  • Store unlawful content, including content that infringes third-party rights, depicts child sexual abuse material, or violates export controls
  • Generate or store content intended to harass, defame, or threaten identifiable people
  • Attempt to access another user's account, tokens, or Drive data, or circumvent Helene's authentication.
  • Probe Helene's infrastructure for vulnerabilities without coordinating with the maintainer
  • Resell, rebrand, or operate Helene as a commercial offering of your own without prior written agreement
  • Generate sustained, automated, or excessive request volume that disproportionately consumes service resources.

Helene's audit log (see Privacy Policy § 1.2) does not record memory contents, so the maintainer cannot see what you store. We rely on your good-faith compliance with this section.

4. Your data

Your memories are stored in your Google Drive's appDataFolder sandbox. You retain full ownership and control. Helene's Worker handles your memory bodies only transiently in memory while serving requests (see Privacy Policy § 4 — Transient processing). If you revoke Helene's Drive access at Google, the files remain in your Drive; they simply become invisible to Helene.

5. AI-generated content

When you use your connected AI client to synthesize project documents from your memories, that AI client (not Helene's Worker) calls a language model and produces the output. The resulting text is governed by your agreement with that AI vendor. Outputs may contain errors, may be inaccurate or biased, and should be reviewed before relying on them.

6. Termination

You may delete your Helene account at any time using the in-app "Delete account" flow. The deletion cascade is described in Privacy Policy § 7.

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of § 3 ("Acceptable use") or for sustained abuse that threatens the service's stability. We will, where practical, give notice and an opportunity to correct the issue first. Termination does not relieve you of any obligations incurred before termination.

We may also retire the service entirely. If we do, we will give at least 30 days' notice and offer an export tool so you can extract your memories from Drive's appDataFolder before shutdown.

7. Disclaimers

Helene is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. There is no service-level agreement; Helene is operated as a personal project, not infrastructure for your business.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Helene is in early access. Features may change, regress, or be removed without notice; data formats in your Drive may evolve.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the maintainer's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to your use of Helene is limited to the amount you have paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim — which, since Helene is free, is zero (USD $0).

This limit does not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law (e.g., for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or death/personal injury caused by negligence).

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the maintainer harmless from any claim arising from your violation of § 3 ("Acceptable use") or your unlawful use of the service. We will notify you promptly of any claim and reasonably cooperate with your defense. This indemnity does not apply where prohibited by mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction (including, where applicable, EU and Korean consumer-protection statutes).

Copyright complaints

If you believe content stored via Helene infringes your copyright, send a notice meeting the requirements of 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) to [email protected]. Notices must identify the copyrighted work, the allegedly infringing material, your contact information, a good-faith statement, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you are authorized to act for the rights holder. We will respond, and where appropriate remove or disable access to the material, in a manner consistent with safe-harbor procedures. Repeat infringers may have their access terminated. Counter-notices may be submitted to the same address.

10. Governing law and disputes

Before filing any claim, you agree to email [email protected] describing the dispute and allow 30 days for informal resolution. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the service shall be resolved in the courts located in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose mandatory law affords you stronger protections (e.g., the EU consumer-rights directive), nothing in this section overrides those protections.

Korean users retain rights under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA); see the Privacy Policy for details.

Force majeure

We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including outages of Cloudflare or Google, network or telecommunications failures, or acts of force majeure.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

Entire agreement

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and the maintainer regarding Helene. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.

Apple and Google distribution

If you obtained Helene from Apple's App Store or Google Play, the following standard distribution terms apply in addition to (and where conflicting, in lieu of) the rest of this agreement:

  • This agreement is between you and the maintainer of Helene, not with Apple or Google.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries, and Google and its affiliates, are third-party beneficiaries entitled to enforce this agreement against you.
  • Apple and Google have no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Helene.
  • Apple and Google make no warranty regarding Helene; the maintainer is solely responsible for any product warranty.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US-government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US-government restricted-party list.

11. Changes

We may update these terms when the service changes materially. Substantive changes will be announced in-app, with the effective date at the top of this document advanced. Your continued use after the new effective date constitutes acceptance.
